Some of the many creative ways that books were distributed include:

  • through local food pantries
  • to children of teen parents
  • through the free & reduced lunch program
  • at family reading nights
  • through “Backpack Programs”
  • through Habitat for Humanity
  • in Christmas baskets for families in need

One heart-warming story shared with us from the Kearney Literacy Council is about the six year old boy pictured below:
“He was so excited about the books we had chosen for him that the director [of the Kearney Habitat for Humanity] called me about 10:00 pm. that night to tell me that he was sprawled on the living room floor of this still empty house, lining up HIS books in the order that he wanted his Mom to read them to him!”
